CHILD PROTECTION CLUB PROMOTES SAFE SCHOOLS

I am Lukwago Geoffrey, 13 years in Primary Seven (P.7) St. Mark Bulenge Primary School, Bussi Island, Wakiso District-Uganda.
I write to thank Eagles Youth Development Initiative and Bussi Island Cluster Project for standing with us to prevent violence against child at School, Families and Communities which was the cry of Island child years back.

As the Chairperson at Child Protection Club, the club is reaching children on the ways of creating a safe learning environment for fellow learners through class discussion, assemblies, drama and weekly saving meetings among others. This has reduced violence against children at school and in the villages of our communities where parents mistreat their children through denial of education, early marriages, rape and child labor among others.

When Child Protection Club came in seminars have been organized for teachers and parent is on how reduce to protect children right.

At school violence has also reduce among learners like bullying and teasing. I wish to register my heart felt appreciation on my behalf and on behalf of the members of the Child Protection Club of S.t Mark Bulenge Primary School, I wish to EYDI/BICP Directors and staff for work well-done am sure it will increase the number children in school and reduce on drop out rate.

PERIOD PRIDE FOR ALL

  Eagles Youth Development Initiative was formed in 2002 by a group of young people  and  is a registered non -profit making organization, committed to empower  children,  adolescents and women in Uganda to  improve access to menstrual health education and products, sanitation and hygiene facilities among others. The year 2022, we  launched" The Period Pride campaign "  aims to support 10,000 girls and young women in hard to reach areas like Bussi Island, Uganda  with reusable pads, menstrual education and information.  Many  girls and women  in rural areas  do have limited access to hygienic menstrual products and poor sanitation infrastructure undermining the education opportunities, health and their social status thus limiting them to reach their full potential.   The are no  schools  based funded  or  underfunded menstrual  health education programs . ‎ Therefore,  we are mobilizing resources to save girls and young women on the Island for better tomorrow.
